07 Mar 7 March 2018 – Oslo International Church Music Festival – “A powerful awakening”
Wednesday 7th March, Oslo Cathedral, Norway
Part of the Oslo International Church Music Festival
A programme specially designed for the combined forces of Gothic Voices, with the fine Oslo Domkor (Oslo Cathedral Choir, directed by Vivianne Sydnes)
ET ECCE TERRAE MOTUS – A powerful awakening – a musical interplay of images of power and light, with the opulent twelve-voice mass ‘Et ecce terrae motus’ (And behold, there was an earthquake) by Antoine Brumel (c.1460 – c.1513), and virtuosic motets and chansons by Guillaume Dufay (c.1397-1474). Music based on the chant and scored for a combination of the two performing ensembles, large and small, frames the sequence, including a new compositions by Andrew Smith (*1970).
