20 Nov Cadogan Hall – 4th March 2015
We are delighted to announce that Gothic Voices will be taking part in the 2014/2015 ‘Choral at Cadogan’ series in March next year. We are using this opportunity, in one of London’s major concert venues, to perform a new programme for the first time.
‘Mary, Star of the Sea’ combines medieval settings of Marian texts with those by modern day composers, including Arvo Pärt and Joanne Metcalf.
It also includes a new piece that is being written for us by the English-born composer, Andrew Smith, and this will be it’s world premiere. The piece is based on the 14th century medieval text, ‘Stond wel Moder’, which is a dialogue between Mary and Christ speaking from the cross. It is a beautiful and inspiring poem.
Andrew has lived in Norway since an early age. He has written music for many top ensembles including ‘ Trio Mediaeval’ and ‘New York Polyphony’. He also sings himself and is an accomplished organist. You can find out more about him on his website www.andrewsmith.no.
