Mezzo Soprano
Catherine fell in love with the medieval vocal repertoire on hearing Gothic Voices’ Machaut recording The Garden of Narcissus as a student. She has always enjoyed ensemble singing so joining Gothic Voices in 1995 was a dream come true.
She sang with the choir of Trinity College Cambridge while studying music, went on to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and has forged a wide ranging singing career. This spans Gothic Voices, lute songs with Jacob Heringman, renaissance group Virelai, many Baroque groups, and 19th , 20th and 21st century repertoire. She performs recitals with pianists Michael Pugh, and harpist Frances Kelly, and has had many new pieces written for her. Operatic performances include Handel, Haydn, Donizetti, Tchaikovsky, and Wagner’s Ring Cycle. She regularly performs oratorio, favourites being those by Handel, Bach’s Passions, Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius and Verdi’s Requiem. As well as the many Gothic Voices recordings Catherine’s CDs include the highly acclaimed Forgotten Arias by Galuppi, Bach Alto Arias and Airs de Cour.
She lives in lovely rural Herefordshire with her husband Charles and has two children, a cat and an unruly garden. She loves to escape for a run – or swing dance!
